The Adventure of Tom Sawyer is based on Mark Twain’s own childhood in the Mississippi port of Hannibal. Te details are true to a small American town in the middle of the 19th century.

One of the main themes of the story is moral growth and maturity. The story also explores the theme of freedom. There have been many films, stage and television versions of the story, which has remained a classic children’s story since it was first published in 1876.
