《失物之書》描寫父親再婚、思念過世母親的男孩大衛，在家中感到越來越寂寞，一天，他開始聽見家中書本彼此交談的聲音，不時會有黑影閃現，以及母親對他若有似無的呼喊聲，像是要提醒他什麼。一次激烈的爭執後，大衛陰錯陽差墜入另一個世界，卻發現裡面的故事情節完全亂套，原本熟悉的童話故事角色，卻暗藏猙獰恐怖的面貌，為了讓一切回到正軌，為了找到回家的路，大衛必須找到《失物之書》，克服心中最深的恐懼，才能回到原來的世界。
第二集《失物之地》雖然主角不再是前作的大衛，但依然圍繞書本、童話、民間傳說等元素。因八歲女兒菲比車禍意外導致重度昏迷，瑟瑞絲整天都待在醫院，守在女兒身旁，她唯一能做的事情就是把菲比最喜歡的童話故事重複念給她聽，默默祈禱奇蹟會出現。
而醫院不遠處一棟古老的大宅─據說大宅的前主人是一位消失的作者─不知為何吸引瑟瑞絲的注意，某個東西希望瑟瑞絲走進房子，並開啟一段前往另一個世界的旅程，那裏充滿童年回和她父親喜愛的民間奇談─一個充滿女巫、精靈、巨人的奇幻仙境，但同時，未知的敵人也躲藏於暗處，觀察著，等待著...
