The extraordinary inspirations of ordinary animals

Talking about a heart- warming story among the animals, Charlotte’s Web sheds lights on being a loyal friend. As a spider, Charlotte was a wise and benevolent friend to Wilbur, a pig that had a nightmare of being a feast. Though despised for being a “bloodthirsty spider” by Wilbur’s prejudice, Charlotte came up with an incredible idea, those “miracles” on the web, to rescue Wilbur’s life. To appreciate Charlotte’s commitment, Wilbur took care of her children in return. Feeling sad about losing Charlotte, Wilbur eventually had a good time accompanying Charlotte’s kids. Scarcely had Wilbur thought that he would be saved by a seeming evil insect one day.

After reading Charlotte's Web, it had totally changed my viewpoint towards life and friends. It is not how many friends we have but what kinds of friends we have that counts. One of my favorite characters, Charlotte, was a loyal and witty companion, who devoted herself to friends. She teaches me that if a friend loves you sincerely, the friendship can nurture each other. Thanks to Charlotte, I know I have to appreciate a friend from a holistic view. A true friend is the one who cares about you and allows you to be who you are. Because of Charlotte’s love and trust, Wilbur gradually became mature, able to give back to people around him. He knew that it was Charlotte’ web that saved his life. As a result, he spared no efforts to looking after the sac, taking Charlotte’s children home. At the beginning of the story, I regard Wilbur as an annoying because he always panicked immediately. Questions appear in my mind: Why couldn't he be composed? Why couldn't he try to come up with a solution to the problem? Over time, I get to comprehend Wilbur better and change my opinions. His kindness and thoughtfulness soon touch my heart. He is actually an adorable and kind pig. I think I was too judgmental at first. After all, he was just a little pig, easily perplexed about any difficulty. That's why he would feel helpless and even panic. Luckily, he grew up with friends’ love. On the other hand, Templeton also provides us food for thought. Selfish and self-centered all the time, he always analyzed the pros and cons before taking action. His behavior disgusted others, so he hardly had true friends.

Besides the friendship, the book also inspired me to give a second thought to whatever we see. For example, all the people in the village mistook Wilbur as a miracle. They were blinded by what was in sight, ignoring what was invisible. On the contrary, Dr. Dorian had great insight and pointed out that the web itself was a miracle. In my opinion, we should pay more attention to what lies behind the appearance. Sometimes what lies inside and can’t be seen matters more than the outside. It is also true of the Internet full of fake information nowadays. Thus, it is vital to cultivate the critical thinking ability to tell the true from the false.

In conclusion, this novel teaches me two things: the value of having true friends and the value of life. As a saying goes, “A true friend accepts who you are, but also helps you become who you should be.” Friends will influence a person deeply and even change her destiny. If Wilbur hadn’t met Charlotte, his destiny would have been rewritten. Charlotte stayed positive and cheerful, giving advice and support to Wilbur all the time. And Wilbur really lived out what Charlotte’s thought about him: some big being terrific, radiant and humble. I believe that Charlotte will always be remembered by her friends and children. True love never leaves as long as we remember it. Her brave behavior touches me and I appreciate her very much. Therefore, I hope I can be as good-hearted as Charlotte and do my best to give a warm hand to friends around me.
