Face to our life-Tuesdays with Morrie

“Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to do something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn't. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted.” In the beginning, I read Tuesday with Morrie in order to finish the post-reading assignment our teacher wanted us to do, but after I read this sentence, I felt interested in this book because it is an exact description of my life.

Tuesdays with Morrie is based on the real-life relationship between author Mitch Albom and his college professor Morrie Schwartz. Morrie has been one of Mitch's favorite professors in college. Incidentally, Mitch has a chance to interview Morrie, who has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Trying to keep up his promise of staying in touch, Mitch travels to his old professor's home and the two re-connect. After the visit, he realizes that he still has much to learn from his old professor. They make a pact that Mitch will visit every Tuesday. Morrie agrees to let Mitch record these "final lessons" as the two discuss life, death and everything in between.

I think Morrie is very brave. He is honest about his fear of death and avows that he still feels nostalgic with his life. Though he is afraid to die, he does not flinch from it. His lessons not only teach us how to live but also how to die. Morrie says, “Everyone knows they're going to die, but nobody believes it.” We are busy with our work, so we have no time to think about death, but“Man wears his birthday suit to this world and leaves with the same.”Even if you have a lot of money, you are going to die one day and you can not bring anything to heaven.

“The Sixth Tuesday We Talk About Emotions” is the most impressive lesson to me. In public, we often pretend we are strong, courageous, and energetic, but actually we are afraid, cowardly, and tired. Morrie advises Mitch not to constrain emotions and not to stop himself from understanding these emotions. After all, we are not saints, so it is okay for us to be depressed, and we can also be joyful. Don’t care so much about what other people think about us. Be true to yourself because you are your only owner.

And my personal favorite lesson is “Twelfth Tuesday We Talk About Forgiveness.”In this special lesson, Morrie tells Mitch it is crucial to make peace with yourself and everyone around you. Anybody can make mistakes. It is very difficult to put aside hatred, but if everyone can have a sense of compassion, and step in others’ shoes, we will have a better world. After I read this lesson, I ask myself﹐“ Am I kind to my friends, my classmates, and my family?” Sometimes I may talk to them impatiently, and how do they feel? I think I still have much to improve.

In my opinion, Tuesdays with Morrie is a life-changing book. It teaches me many things, such as love, family, and culture. In this bustling society, it is easy to lose our spirit, goal, and original intention. Morrie’s wisdom helps us reexamine ourselves and prepare to set out again. Although I am just a senior high school student, some lessons in the book is are kind of distant to me, I still learn a lot from Morrie’s helpful wisdom. Tuesdays with Morrie is of invaluable use to people of all ages, andI wish everyone could have a chance to read such an influential and touching book.
