anti-utopia

Having foods delivered to the dwelling every day, wearing tidy costumes to work, speaking precise language. Any person at any age had his or her own job to do. Got a symbolize cloth and stuff when became older, had kids which are given by Birthmothers while adults, and had their rest life in the House of the Old, received good cares from Caretakers. No pain or loneliness, no wars or fights, everything was well arranged, Jonas lived in the Community which we might call it "Utopia".

While residents walking along the street during an un scheduled holiday, water of the river flowed pass through them, children played good guys and bad guys game on the playing field next by, people thought it was ordinary to be like this, but what they couldn't see were the colors of everything. They saw water, but couldn't saw the blue of it; they saw trees and bushes in the field, but couldn't saw the green of it. People long time before had seen the red of blood spreading in wars, so they eliminated the color genes in human's body. They had seen the damages blizzard brought, so they controlled the climate to prevent people from disasters. They had seen the terrifying of the war, so they erased the emotion, for keeping society peace and grace. People no longer could see the violence, feel melancholy and helpless, but also, they couldn't have the marvelous nature scenery in their sight, couldn't see the sunshine spreading from the blue sky, couldn't feel warm between family or friend, couldn't feel love.

The world we are living is complicated. Conflicts occur often, the rich have delicacies for meal everyday while needies beg for their living supplies. Families gather together to celebrate Christmas, teenagers worries about their school works, ladies thinking about what to wear before a date, couples fight for the lack of money. Sadness and happiness both live in our world. Our world is not wonderful, is not the place we wish to live which we call it Utopia, but it is those defective places makes our life abundant. We learn the sweetness of a fruit after knowing how much sweat was dropped in the soil to make it grow. We complained about difficulties when we face a problem, but after we solve it, the sense of achievement we earn is just like treasure, we save it in our memory, and feel satisfied to have it. We might weep when we are hurt, might feel lonely and helpless, but tears make us stronger, those bad emotions make us know how to become a better person.

When we have no chance to build our own future, what is the meaning of a life? When everything begins with an ending settled already, what do we live for? Though everything is well prepared for us in the community which the book describe, no irritations and trepidations, I still choose to live in this ordinary, imperfect world. Cause we can't call an arranged life a real Life.
