The Little Prince

The book is about a fantastic journey of a pilot forced to land in the Sahara Desert during a flight. There he meet the Little Prince, a kid with golden yellow hair and a brilliant smile. The Little Prince comes from a tiny planet with an unique rose on it, named B-612. Via their conversation, the writer tried to express the desire and pursuance of a pure heart ingeniously.

“What is the most important thing in our life?” Wealth, power, reputation,or what? This is the main notion that appears throughout the book. For the Little Prince, taking care of his unique rose and his planet and concerning about every life are things that count. However, not everyone do think so. In this book, the proud man who cares only about himself, the drunkard who tries every effort to escape from the past, the businessman who is greedy for wealth, and the geographer who buries himself in study, they all have their own persistence, but all of them do not understand the true meaning of life. They seem to be ridiculous, yet many people in the society nowadays just lead their lives in the way like that.

As time goes by, and we gradually grow up, we learn to compromise with the reality; we become sophisticated, sometimes indifference and cruel. We even forget the original dream that we once had. Yet the fact is that everyone has a “Little Prince” in his or her mind. As we seek after wealth, power, or something that we consider important, we may neglect those wonderful and simple things in our daily lives. But if we slow down our pace, and discover the world with our hearts, we can feel the warmth and beauty of the world and also enjoy the marvelous feeling of being simple. Just like what has been mentioned in the book that “ It is only with heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eyes.”

“ The men where you live, raise five thousand roses in the same garden – and they do not find in it what they are looking for. And yet what they are looking for could be found in one single rose, or in a little water. But eyes are blind. One must look with the heart…” These are the most impressive and memorable sentences that I keep in mind over the years. When we obtain one thing we are eager for, we may ask for more and more and eventually forget what we really want at the very beginning. And then we will be hoodwinked, finally losing that vital thing and even losing ourselves.

Since I entered my junior high school, I have got into the habit of sending myself a “The Little Prince” put out by different publisher as a birthday gift each year. I remind myself of being pure and innocent by rereading the book again and again. This is truly a book of love, friendship, and spiritual power which is worth reading as well as collecting. Every time I read it, I comprehend different sense of life and feel like doing something meaningful for myself. It is through this book that I begin to know the most important thing about life. The most important of all, this book has given me the power to make it through the difficulties and the tough time in my life. Whenever I feel helpless or dejected, I would look at the starry sky at night because I know that the Little Prince is somewhere in one of the shining stars looking after me and smiling at me. The stars always make me laugh!
