Diary of a Wimpy Kid:Greg Heffley's Journal

Diary of a wimpy kid is about a boy named Greg Heffley, and it is a funny and laughable book that brings me a lot of fun and joy .When Greg entered middle school, his mother forced him to keep diaries every day. However, he thought writing in a diary was a sissy act, so he would rather call his diary a journal book instead of a diary. That is why each day in the “diary” does not start with “Dear Diary” this and “Dear Diary” that. On top of that, a very childish but strong and humorous personal writing, narrating style can be seen in the book, and Greg’s journals are considerably full of his funny ideas, stupid fantasies, and painful experiences mostly in school and among him and his family and his best friend Rowley.

Greg started writing his “journals” on his first day of middle school, and the stuff he wrote was mainly about his school life, his friends, and all the foolish things they plotted, they shared and they did together. These funny and babyish materials remind me of my childhood memories. In fact, I even had some similar thoughts and awkward experiences, and no doubt I was sometimes stuck in the same situations when I was his age. For Example, Greg's mom once came to school as the substitute teacher, and Greg thought that was really “disgraceful” because such “surprise” made him a "Mama's Boy." He didn’t want to be laugh at like that. It’s very true that most teenagers hate that kind of experience when their parents show up in front of their friends, I believe. I remember when my mom greeted my friends with a loving, I should say strange, smile on her face, I felt so embarrassed and wished so bad that my mom could disappear right away because I feared my friends would think that I was a kid that never grew up and still needed my mom’s care and hugs. I didn’t know what to do then, just wanting to hide myself in a big and deep hole at the very moment.

In my opinion, this book is a little bit stupid but very interesting and attractive, and the stories are very close to any familiar campus life in reality, though there are still some cultural differences. The words in this book are easy to read and understand. From it I learned plenty of useful and humorous expressions and I also found my English somewhat improved. Another special feature about the book is its cute and vivid comics and illustrations which absolutely add much spice and fun to the book. Without these comics, the book won't be so special.

After reading this book, I tried to dig out the diary I wrote in before, and I found some interesting facts about my past school life , which had long been lost in my memory. Somehow, I discovered I had some stupid days in school, just like Greg. Perhaps I should consider writing my own journals to keep records of my high school life from now on. After all, after a few months, I will be a college student and will step nearer to the so-called real cruel world full of serious adults who lack a great sense of humor. I should cherish the rest of my innocent days, even if they are stupid or not too pleasant. When looking back, I am sure that those lousy, immature days will finally become priceless memories.
