Pride and Prejudice

When it comes to reading Western literature, we will never forget the immortal masterpiece,“Pride and Prejudice”. The author, Jane Austen, was adept at writing the weaknesses and character flaws which live in humans’ mind. In this story, every character has his or her own personality while it also accompanies some defects.

The two main characters, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, first met each other at a ball; however, Mr. Darcy’s insolent words and behavior left a pride impression on Elizabeth. Besides, hearing of some criticism about Mr. Darcy added to her prejudice against him. Elizabeth was a cultured, beautiful, and witty girl. As for Mr. Darcy, he was handsome, intelligent, and aloof decorum. It was the noble birth which resulted in haughty and the poor first impression which led to preconception that caused the misunderstanding between them. As the story progressed, Mr. Darcy overcame his pride gradually, and so did Elizabeth overcame her prejudice. Ultimately, they realized the real inside of each other, and fell in love in the end.

While reading the book, I considered that it wasn’t merely telling a love story. Instead, it appeared to be an epitome of our lives. For instance, Mrs. Bennet chatters all the time and is a little neurotic. Also, she is a typical woman that thinks about her daughters’ marriage eagerly. Jane is regarded as the prettiest young lady in the neighborhood. She has a considerate heart, and always shows her magnanimity to others. Elizabeth’s youngest sister, Lydia, yet isn’t as graceful as her two eldest sisters. She is frivolous and headstrong which eventually contributes to the elopement with George Wickham. Apart from them, there are still many others that have the similar disposition to us. Reading this novel was like watching an actual experience about someone’s life. Presenting lifelike plots through Jane Austen’s writing, I could dimly perceive the characters’ subtle frame of mind. Furthermore, I got fabulous vibrations and learned many valuable lessons from them.

In the entire story, the most attractive part to me is the dramatic changes between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. At the beginning, due to the pride and prejudice deeply existed in each mind at first sight, a budding resentment started to grow in Elizabeth heart. Nevertheless, Mr. Darcy was by degrees fascinated with her. To win Elizabeth’s heart, Mr. Darcy was willing to humble himself and drop his arrogance. It really touched me that such a lofty man with a large fortune would tried his best to get rid of his unsociable temper of his own volition just because of the lady he loved. It is the sincere love that accomplished this great affection. In addition, I admire Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth for their courage to confront those shortcomings and finally defeat them. It seems easy to achieve, but in fact it requires resolute will. There are too many traps around us, first of all is our own spiritual traps. Only when you conquer them can you undoubtedly be the master of your own.

The reason Pride and Prejudice can be so absorbing and immortal is that it is not only profound but resourceful. Its minute description can always make you be addicted to this marvelous story.
