Pride and Prejudice

Without ornate and unrealistic plot, Pride and Prejudice is just like breeze blowing through my heart, simple but elegant, making people captivated to it naturally.

The first element that caught my eye was the charming leading roles, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy was a handsome gentleman with lots of fortune. Elizabeth was a clever and humorous lady with beautiful eyes. The above qualities made them look like the prince and princess in the fairy tale that made girls looking forward to. However, that was not the reason why l fascinated by the couple so much. The shortcoming in their personalities, Darcy’s pride and Elizabeth’s prejudice, were what made the story a masterpiece. In my opinion, Darcy was proud but self-abased, so he needed to defend himself with pride. No matter how unsociable he was, building a wall that could cut off the world was much easier than building the relationship with others. Much to my surprise, after Darcy’ proposal was rejected by Elizabeth, he didn’t blame his failure on Elizabeth but reflected on himself. He changed himself for the lady he loved. Furthermore, Elizabeth was proud too, and her pride led to her prejudice. Being proud of her own judgment about people’s character, she neglected the chance to find out Darcy’s real character. After reading Darcy’s letter, Elizabeth was helpless and astonished but struggled in her memories, trying to search for the truth. Understanding the truth, she gravely blamed herself for making a poor judgment. She reflected on herself rather than insisted on her viewpoints. In Darcy and Elizabeth’ love story, they both made mistakes but both corrected themselves. The leading role’s small shortcomings in the love story didn’t decrease its appeal; instead, it added vivid colors to the beautiful story.

Besides Darcy and Elizabeth, other characters’ unique personalities also enriched the plot and brought the story to life. For instance, Mrs. Bennet, a vain and temperamental old lady, wished to marry off her daughters all the time. Lydia, a silly and ignorant girl, always bringing troubles for her family, but it was because of the trouble we came to know people’s real characters. Darcy was a generous and helpful gentleman and Wickham was as wicked and evil as his name. Mr. Wickham, a greedy and crafty man, always cheated ladies with his handsome appearance and gentle manners. Mr. Collins, a selfish and arrogant priest, adulated the rich but despised the poor. When the varied characters made the highlights in the story, my mood went up and down with them, like riding on the roller coaster, a variety of feelings filling my heart. If there were no those interesting characters, the story might have tasted bland and tasteless.

Pride and Prejudice’s story was built by its distinctive characters. The interesting roles reflected the fascinating dialogues. The amusing dialogue reflected the exciting plots. Everything in the story was so realistic and touching. With simple but sincere emotion, Pride and Prejudice was a masterpiece that could be immortal in every reader’s heart.
