常見台灣許多學會把會員大會、理事會委託別人代表出席的授權書稱為  “authorization form”。“authorization form” 是用在諸如信用卡授權等情況，若係委託別人代表出席的授權書，其實應該譯為proxy 才符合英文習慣。

中文「代表」是多義詞，但英文怎麼講？大部分學習者恐怕就只知道represent/representative/ on behalf of等。其實「代表」英文至少就有 represent, on behalfof, in my capacity; representative, advocate, substitute, proxy, delegate,token, symbol 等對應詞來表達不同情境下「代表」的意涵。如：

in my capacity本身才有能力做決定的代表(老闆代表自己的公司，父母代表未成年的子女，代表自己個人等)：in my capacity as the chairperson of Bookman, in my capacity as the mother of Mary, in my personal capacity

representative一個人代表一群人：a representative for the group

delegate代表團中的一員：youth delegates in the Mexican delegation

substitute一個人代表另一位：as a substitute for his father

charge d’affaires代表大使或部長的官員：charge d'affaires for (the) ambassador

advocate代表產品或某種主張 (現稱代言人)：animal welfare advocates

token代表心意 (表示以小代大)

symbol代表承諾 (表示隆重或鄭重)

proxy代表某人出席會議及投票

因此，「代表我的一點心意」會說 “a token of my gratitude”，「代表我的承諾」則是 “a symbol of my promise”，「指定/委託某人代表他出席董事會」是 “appoint someone as his proxy at the board meeting”。受託代表某人者，委託書或授權書都叫proxy。 (Jerome Su, August 18, 2017)
