The author of this book came to Taiwan in 1988 and has stayed on this island since then. Living in a different culture for 28 years and seeing how the Taiwan nation’s identity changed rapidly under the influence of different political discourses, he continued to develop his observations on paradigms based on his knowledge learnt in the USA as well as Taiwan.
In this book, the author analyzes discourses from physics to metaphysics, finding reasons why conflicts remain among human beings holding different beliefs or paradigms. He then proposes a question: why, as world citizens, can’t human beings develop a new, tolerant paradigm to unite the whole world?
As the author says in the preface, what the book does is “present a needed direction for the future…by posing questions”. Through this book, readers can think further of the paradigms that generate our decisions and behavior in life. Furthermore, they can also join in exploring a paradigm of uniting the world.
