Edith Hamilton
Theworld-renowned classicist Edith Hamilton was born in Dresend,Germany, and spent herchildhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She graduated from Bryn Mawr, whereshe received both B.A. and M.A. degrees, and then started on a mostdistinguished teaching career. She regarded as the high point of her life a 1957 ceremony in which King Paul awarded herthe Golden Cross of the Order of Benefaction and made her an honorary citizenof Athens. MissHamilton died in Washingtonin May, 1963.
